Computer Love: Happy Birthday to me!

Today’s my 55th birthday (yes, I am that old!), so as my present to myself, I upgraded my computer a bit yesterday.

Old Parts:

  • Asus A8N-E motherboard (FSB 1000 MHz)
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ CPU
  • Crucial DDR 400 (PC 3200) SDRAM (4 GB total)

New Parts:

Same Parts:

Summary:

Shattrath: Within 2 minutes of logging in I was looking at 111.1 fps; previously, I was seeing maybe 40 if it wasn’t too busy and I stood still. Generally, I was getting 50-80 fps.

Iron Forge: Standing on the steps to the AH, 80 fps. In the bank, 55-100+.

Sssssssssssssssmokin’!

ooooooooohhhhhhh… aaaahhhhhhhhhh… I’m so jealous! I’m waiting patiently for the people at Mac to tell me if they’ve turned me down or not for financing soI an buy one of the new iMacs. I’m not as techno-savvy as you, but I’m getting the 24″ that has something about dual-core that has my hubby jealous of my computer for a change.

Also, link updated! *passes a bottle of wine* “May you never go thirsty,” *passes a loaf of bread* “May you never go hungry,” *passes a canister of salt* “May your life always have flavor!” Happy moving in! I tried to make that witty and somehow computer related, but I couldn’t make it more than lame and sad so I kept to the original :-)

The new iMacs do look nice. Not that I need a new one, but if I ever buy the next time I buy a new laptop, it’ll be a MacBook of some flavor. Bought my wife a new HP desktop last year…but I sure wish the new iMac had been available.

Thank you for the “housewarming” gifts! :) (And the updated link!)

  3. [...] Last week, I mentioned the computer hardware upgrades I did as a birthday present to myself. In a couple comments, I’ve mentioned my dual-monitor setup, and Matticus asked for a picture. So, here it is: [...]

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article s Aerie, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
