Down with Mailbox Spam!

Okay, I’ve now found something to thoroughly dislike about the 2.2 patch: Auction House mail spam.

If you haven’t seen or heard about it yet, when you sell an item in the AH now, you have about a 1 hour wait before your money is delivered to your mailbox. The purpose is to thwart gold sellers, who have been buying 1 piece of runecloth or some beef jerky for 1000 gold (or 5K or whatever). Great idea; I thoroughly support and endorse it! (Wish I’d thought of it, in fact.)

However, you now receive mail when “a buyer has been found for your [product]” to let you know the item is sold and your money will be delivered at approximately such-and-such a time.  If you’re a REAL active auction player, you could have pages of those messages before you actually find a mail piece of value. And it’s not impossible to delete mail that has money in it (or at least, it didn’t used to be–I’ve done it; fortunately for a pretty small amount).

Just give me my money, and spare me the post office routing info.

Of course, as my guildmate Katika suggested, “It’s a scam by Blizzard to make money on the interest.”
