Patch 2.2: Underwhelming?

By now I’m sure you’ve all read the 2.2 patch notes, and have probably even logged in post-patch. For a patch that seemed to have the gestation period of an elephant, I’m just not seeing anything for the casual gamer (which, remember, is most of us) to get all excited about.

Perhaps one reason for that is voice chat is implemented…except it isn’t. At least not yet, not on most servers. And apparently, it wasn’t enabled on the launch servers when they came back up, either. So, it’s kinda hard to get excited about something that’s still vaporware to most or all of us.

While there were plenty of tweaks to classes, quests, items, and professions, there really isn’t anything to make me go “wow!” Sure, Holy Priests get an improvement to Lightwell, but I’m afraid it’s going to take more than this to make it a “real” 31-point talent. (That said, I am considering a respec to pick it up, if it will be viable for where my priest is in his adventuring life.)

And it was nice to see that a lot of pally buffs will be longer–that makes everyone happy, no question. Similarly, all the battlegrounds folks (well, those who weren’t exploiting it) are happy about the fix to the honor-while-AFK situation. But then there’s the change to Haste. I was on for a bit over my lunch hour, and the most common term I heard on Trade Channel (Trade–the new General Chat Neutral) was “nerf.” Meh. I’m not at a point with any of my characters where I’m affected–and I like to think of myself as being fairly adaptive to Blizzard’s changes. (After all, I have a pair of Level 70 rogues and Level 65 & 69 Hunters–I know all about the nerf bat, tyvm. Wink)

So, I guess what I’m saying is, why isn’t this patch called 2.1.3? After all, that’s what FilePlanet has been telling me I was subscribed to download for the past 3 months.

What in this patch are you excited about? Maybe you can ratchet up my enthusiasm.
