Well, to some of you, anyway.
One of the reasons we all write blogs is because we want people to read what we have to say. One of the ways we generate traffic to our blogs is by commenting on other blogs–like yours! Then, people click on our names, and are linked our blogs, maybe comment, and generate traffic to their blogs. Eventually, that karma is directed back to YOUR blog…and the world is a better place.
But…a lot of you Blogspot.com bloggers have your comment page set up so we have to use a Blogger.com ID to post comments. This is Not So Good, because when someone clicks my name, for instance, they get sent to this page instead of directly to my blog. Now, I do have the Aerie linked to "My Webpage" in my Blogger.com profile, but that’s an extra click, if someone stays on the page long enough to see the link.
I appreciate your desire to avoid comment spam: Everyone’s first comment here waits for my review before being posted. And I know a lot of people don’t like "Anonymous" comments (can’t stand ‘em, myself–and yes, I know "Kestrel" is a more-or-less anonymous pseudonym–but you can find a person behind the nom de plume with a modicum of effort).
An unfortunate drawback to using Blogger is you can restrict comments to registered (Blogger) users, with or without moderation, or open it up to anyone, including Anonymous, with or without moderation, but you can’t allow comments by "all except Anonymous" (i.e., require a name and URL–which could be phony, but at least someone has to take the time to type in–or autofill–the blanks). On the other hand, Blogger does employ "word verification" which can defeat a LOT of automated spam.
So…if you’re limiting comments to registered Blogspotters simply because you haven’t gone to your Dashboard to change it, would you consider changing it? Please? Pretty please?

“An unfortunate drawback to using Blogger is you can restrict comments to registered (Blogger) users, with or without moderation,”
Clearly why wordpress is superior to Blogger =)!
Wasn’t EVEN going there, Matt
(But another alternative, as I mentioned in the preceding post, is Vox.com.)
I run a wordpress blog, but I don’t like cluttering it up with my hunter ramblings and rather reserve it for the video stuff I do. Still trying to figure out just how to get my Blogger profile name to link directly to my site.

Not sure you can; only thing I’ve been able to do is use the “My Webpage” link.
Grrrrrr. That’s just plain silly!
I updated my comment settings to allow comments from anonymous users and enable word verification…I never considered the fact that I might be limiting my “fanbase” (HA!) by only allowing registered users to post on my blog…thanks for the suggestion kestrel!
Thanks, Aerislan! If you’re the only one who changes, I’ll consider my post a success!
@pelides: That was kinda the point of my article. It’s not the bloggers who are at fault, it’s Google/Blogspot. They don’t seem to understand there are other blogging options besides Blogger.
Done !
Thanks for the tip.
Thanks fer pointing that out, Kestrel. Hadn’t realized me default settings was causin’ trouble. Now accepting comments from thems what ain’t blogspotters and those what wish to remain anomalous.
Wow…I guess I’ve spent way too much time reading the official forums and other message boards where folks aren’t quite as…grown up…as the blogging community appears to be.
I was really worried that I might get some negative reaction, but apparently I communicated more effectively than I hoped!
Thanks, guys, for your consideration–I know I am not the only one who’ll appreciate that. Who knows? Maybe more non-Blogspot bloggers will comment now?
Changed my settings too
I didn’t even realise bloggers standard settings were to limit comments to members only.
You’re welcome Kestrel, but dang it! Don’t you be goin’ around tellins people I’s like a grown up or sumthin’. I gots a reputation to maintain.
Ratshag, the idea of a grown-up troll is somehow very, very disturbing.
