Headless Horseman: Ringless & Broomless too!

So after a day of running around Blade’s Edge and Netherstorm, getting our warrior tank and a pally to 70, we decided to try the Headless Horseman. Our group–all 70s–consisted of Warrior (MT), Paladin (not prot specced), Warlock (affliction, I think), and two BM Hunters (I was one of them, on Talonis).

We went after him twice, and wiped both times. The second time, he was down to about 15 percent but the pumpkins did us in. I think if we kept at it with that group, we’d have figured out how to down him, but we figured it wasn’t worth the repair bill.

So, I subbed in Osprey, my Holy Priesty, and we rocked! We got him down, no problem. AND, I picked up Witching Band. Nice little improvement there. Next time, our Warrior earned a ring, and the pumpkins scored a win: I died but since I was soulstoned, I rezzed and kept up my awesome healing (*tongue firmly in cheek*). Third time, no deaths, and I got The Horseman’s Signet Ring. The loss of 15 mana was more than offset by the gain of well over 200 health, compared to what I’d been wearing. By this time the original group was out of summons, so we subbed out the Warlock for our GM, a Combat Swords Rogue.

We rocked again…although I died…again…due to those damned pumpkins. However, I won the roll for the Swift Magic Broom. We did one more summon, this time bringing in our Balanced Druid, who is the Grand Mistress of Massive Crits and superb DPS. It was the easiest kill of the night, and evened our record against HHM at 5 kills, 5 wipes. We plan on several more kills Sunday (I want to get Talonis in on a kill, instead of being killed!).

All in all, I confess it was a lot more fun than I expected (I’m not a fan of Halloween at all–not because I have any repressed childhood fears or anything, it’s just not a holiday I enjoy). Can’t wait to do more killing!!

The Horseman be a wicked fun fight. I’ve helped bring the bugger down some seventeen times so far, and it’s been fun every time. Gettin’ hard ta find a pug, now that most of the rogues and healers and casters got they rings, but I’m gonna keep doggin’ him till he clears out at the end of the month. It’s that much fun, I finds. And who knows – maybe I’ll get a squashling pet to go with me broom and Helf of Evil Laughter.

Grats on yer loot so far Kestrel, and lucks to Talonis.

We tackled him another 7-8 times last night–as a Raid group! I’d read in the comments on WoWHead this was possible, so we did it. Our awesome resto Druid healed the raid, and with only one or two of us really familiar at all with raiding, we lost a couple people, but those were the only deaths all night–except the Level 41 warrior we brought in to get a broom. He also got the level 1 cloth hat.

But the highlight of the evening was our next-to-last pull: The Helm of Evil Laughter dropped, much to the delight of our warrior tank. We also got a squashling pet on that drop, which went to our aggro-stealing balanced Druid (“I can’t help it if I crit for 31…hundred!”). The Witching Band also dropped, and that went to our semi-healadin, much to her delight. And finally…(remember, all of this is the same pull!), the Magic Flying Broom! As I already had the Swift Magic Broom, I asked to be sure no one had a problem if I rolled on the flier. The point was made the flier is only usable in Outlands, so yeah, Osprey, go ahead and roll. *blush* I rolled 100. Of course, I can only dream of being that lucky on something that lasts more than 2 weeks.

We’ll be going back tonight: We still have another warrior and a pally or two who want the helm (that thing is hilarious!), and of course would be nice to get some more good brooms.
