Some Quickie – and Handy – Pet Macros

While commenting on a post by Pike at Aspect of the Hare, I mentioned a combat healing macro I use to keep my pet healthy. Then I mentioned a combo feed/mend macro. Then I decided these deserve an article of their own. Before I proceed, however, I want to credit BRK with the genesis of these macros.

Combat Healing

#showtooltip Scorpid Sting
/castsequence reset=15 Scorpid Sting, Mend Pet

Keep in mind, Elementals (among others) are immune to Scorpid Sting. My feeling on this (so far) is "So what?" The idea is to get the second button press to heal my pet. Yes, I could probably fold in some extra code to get around that issue, and at some point, I may feel the need to do that.

Using this macro as my standard opening (after pulls, traps, etc.), I can keep Mend Pet running on Talon almost continually. If for some reason he and I are on different targets, it does get a little dicier, paying attention to the timer. But that’s where the next macro comes in.

Combination Mend Pet/Feed Pet

/cast [combat] Mend Pet
/cast [nocombat,modifier:shift] Mend Pet
/cast [nocombat,nomodifier] Feed Pet
/use [nocombat, nomodifier, pet:cat] Clefthoof Ribs; [nocombat, nomodifier, pet:wind serpent] Bladespire Bagel

(Sorry about the funky spacing in that last line; even WysiwygPro 3 can’t seem to force left-justified paragraphs. Guess I need to tweak the theme a bit. *groan*)

I have this macro bound to Ctrl-F, which feeds the pet the appropriate food (whoever heard of a serpent that doesn’t eat meat?? sheesh!). For those of you (like me) whose eyes glaze when you read macros, here’s what’s going on:

  • Line 1: Ctrl-F in combat heals the pet.
  • Line 2: SHIFT-Ctrl-F out of combat heals the pet. (Simple, huh?)
  • Line 3: Ctrl-F out of combat feeds the pet.
  • Line 4: Tells the macro what food to give to which pet, as long as we are out of combat, and I didn’t hit the Shift-Ctrl-F combo. (Now, if Blizzard would just use generic "meat," "fish," "fruit," "fungus" labels, this could be even simpler!)

Ooh, nice macros. The Mend Pet one is a good idea. I actually have Mend Pet bound to Alt 2 myself, I spam it quite a bit… basically any time my pet is tanking something difficult, or something with a lot of AoE, I’ll try to keep Mend Pet up basically 100% of the time. But that’s a very good idea to pair it with Scorpid Sting.

Oh, and to answer your question about the banners at the bottom of my page… they haven’t been working for a while… I think something might be wrong with the site. I noticed BRK took his banner down and just kept up the plain one, I might have to do that too…
