Bremm has tagged me to follow Pelides’ lead in describing my five worst wipes. I thought about begging off, since I don’t raid (yet–we’re working on it, honest!). But then I remembered I’m a "casual" player, and all of us do 5-mans, right?
So here are the five "worst" wipes I can come up with at the moment.
5. Dire Maul. You know, I’ve never completed this instance (any part of it) for the DM quests. Any time I’ve completed part of it has been for a pally or warlock quest (not for one of my characters). So I’ve managed to wipe, at least once, in each area of this place.
4. Scarlet Monastery - The Cathedral. Around level 60 (maybe even higher), three of us went to SM with our Mechanical Yetis, to see how much havoc they could wreak. If you’re not familiar with these little pets, they’re a quest reward from a Winterspring quest line. They last 2 or 3 minutes when summoned, and are on full-aggressive mode all the time. So, we set ‘em down in there to watch them create havoc. Unfortunately, we were laughing so hard it was difficult to combat all the monks and acolytes (not to mention Whitemane), and we ended up dead. (We went right back, and killed Whitemane so fast he couldn’t be rezzed by what’s-her-name. Glad we didn’t need his Chapeau.)
3. Underbog. My first instance as the main (well, only) healer. We went in with a pretty high level group. Too high level: Clearly we thought we were overpowered for this instance (if we weren’t all 70, we were at least 67+). So naturally, despite plotting the strategy ahead of time (avoid the ‘shrooms!), we wiped magnificently on the first boss. I did a lousy job of (a) healing and (b) avoiding the shrooms. (Clearly, (b) played a part in (a).)
2. Shadow Labyrinth. We’d just one-shot Hellmaw and were setting up for the first pull in the next room (the pews before you go for Blackheart the Inciter). Our mage wanted a better look at the layout. Unfortunately, she stuck her nose in the room just as one of the demon ladies was in aggro range—and also within shouting distance of half the rest of the room. I know we had at least two groups on us; the "fight" didn’t last long enough for anyone to tell if there were more. The mage and I died first (I was playing Osprey, my priest), but the other three didn’t last a lot longer. Probably one of the coolest body pulls I’ve ever seen. ![]()
1. Shadow Labyrinth. A week after the run described above. I was on Talonis, my BM Hunter. We were smokin’. Hellmaw: 1-shot. Blackheart: 1-shot. Trash pulls: Awesome (a couple trash wipes early on, but nothing horrific). CC, including my traps, was spot-on. A glorious run! So we clear all the trash up to the third boss. I’m topping the damage meters, although the mage is close behind. So there’s the Book of Fel Names. I have no good explanation for what happened next, except I completely lost situational awareness. I think I was half-confusing the book with the one in Sethekk Halls, before the second (?) boss, and/or the First Key Fragment container in Shadow Lab. Anyway, I ran up to open the BoFN. Oh…did I mention we hadn’t yet taken down the boss? No? Umm…well…we hadn’t. Of course, I’m doing this while the rest of the group is eating/drinking in preparation for the boss fight. Anyone want to guess what happened next? Ayup. I doubt I’ll ever live that one down.

Hmm…not sure I should be commenting, or editing the parent article. But that picture I chose to illustrate this article is cracking me up more and more every time I look at it: Shout Wipes. Isn’t that what the RL does? Shout, “WIPE!”?
And “Instant Stain Remover.” I’ll let you draw your own conclusions. Sometimes, I just crack myself up.
Don’t need 25 people to wipe! 2 or 3 can do some spectacular wipes as well!
Oh mans. I’da loved to’ve seen the mech yetis rampaging around SM Cathedral. It’d be worth a few wipes.
[...] distinct, orc stereotype-reaffirming fashion! Bremm trots out ZG and some other old school goodies! Though not raid wipes, Kestrel shows us that even in the 5 mans we can end up with egg on our face. Pike is new to the game and reminds us of all of the mistakes we made way back when! Kdots is a new [...]
