Update: Somehow, in the Gravatars addon, the function to link commenters to their site URLs got disabled. Not sure if (a) I failed to activate it initially; (b) I accidentally deactivated it; or (c) an update to the plugin deactivated the function.
The good news is, it’s fixed! Thanks again to Matticus for trying to help me out with troubleshooting this. Incidentally, Edit Comments capability is restored as well: I’d disabled that in my troubleshooting process.
I noticed (at about 1:15am) while reviewing comments to recent articles, that the commenters’ names (including mine) aren’t linkified; i.e., the writer’s name isn’t linked to their blog. Now, I thought they were–that’s how I want things to look–and that’s how most sites work.
I have no idea when this stopped working, or why. I’ve deactivated the most recent plugin I installed, because it wasn’t working correctly–but it shouldn’t have any effect on this issue anyway.
So has this really been the default behavior? I am sure I’ve clicked names in comments before to go to your sites…so what the heck is going on here??
I’ve reviewed all the options I can find at this time of night, and all my plugins. ‘Tis a mystery–and if anyone can offer some insight, I have a cold beer and/or fresh tray of Mrs. Kestrel’s chocolate chip cookies waiting for you. (Of course, you have to be present to win.)
Am dead tired, so will pursue further Saturday, I hope.

Well, your gravatar is working fine.
However, I suspect the gravatar plugin and the comments aren’t playing well together.
I get an error when I edit my own comment (which I do frequently, cuz I’m sloppy), but the edit works. So maybe I remove plugins and play around that way.
Thanks, Matt!
Ouch, Kestrel. Sorry, I didn’t mean to break your blog like that. You should probably edit or toast the above comments.
