Experimental Theme – “Aspire” (Abandoned)

Edit: There appear to be simply too many issues with the Aspire theme at the moment for me to try to resolve, even if I can. And it seem most folks are happier with the original, anyway. Thanks to those of you who provided input–it’s truly appreciated! I think what I will do with some upcoming time off is really try to get into the Munch code, and make the site look the way I really want it to look. (That won’t be for probably another 3 weeks or so, though.)

Disregard what follows (text of original post).

I’m not at all unhappy with my original theme (called “Munch”); however, I’m always looking at other options. The current theme is “Aspire” from Infocreek.

IF I keep Aspire up, there will be some changes. For one thing, a real site banner (WoW-themed) (any volunteers to submit drafts?) is a must.

I’ll probably leave this up through Monday or Tuesday. In the meantime, I’m interested in your feedback on two questions:

  1. Do you like Aspire?
  2. Do you prefer Aspire, or Munch?

Any other comments?

I can’t seem to post comments on my PC so I’m writing this on my Macbook. Overall its a great theme. The only issue I had with the last one was contrast issues.

You’ll be interested to know another blogging colleague of ours uses this popular theme as well =): http://www.lady-jess.com.

Wow…it’s been way too long since I’ve actually visited Jess’s site. I thought this theme looked familiar, and I did find a similar one somewhere (not Jess’s…at a theme shop), but probably what I remembered was hers.

I’m posting from my PC…and I did get a “Testi” comment from you in my email, Matt — but it appears you edited it to the above.

Okay; I logged out of the site, came back and wrote a comment just fine, but as it tried to post, I got an error (same as reported to me via email by Softthistle). And I haven’t modified the theme at all, so I suspect add-on problems. Working on it… :)

I should mention that “Edit Comments” works fine…for me, logged in. And I wonder why PC users have the problem but not Mac users. Now THAT is weird…

Found the culprit: AJAXed WordPress. Even though a new version was uploaded yesterday, any time I try to change the settings in that add-in, I get errors. No idea why it’s not working for PC users, but for now it’s disabled.

Haha, I swear the comment was supposed to say testing.

Matt, did you submit that last comment via PC or Mac?

Comments are working for me (logged out of WordPress), but I just got an email from Anna that they aren’t working for her in IE or FF (I’m using FF).

I’m having difficulty with some of the sidebar content.

When I first load a page, the Technorati box is overlapping the recent comments box. This fixes itself when I hover over the “search this site …” Search button.

In addition, in Suggested Reading I can only select 5-Star Blogs (the other items don’t seem to have links), and when I do the text expands to overlap the Other Resources text.

Oddly, the empty “parchment box” for Other Resources is pushed down the page propertly, as is the sitemeter and it’s box — just not the Other Resources text.

On the other hand, the only clickable link under Other Resources is WordPress, and if I click on that it expands over top of the sitemeter box and also pushes an extra empty box down the page.

For reference, I am using IE7 (all updated) under Windows Vista with SP2. Let me know if you need screenshots or experimentation or whatnot. :>

Bleh…those are a lot of issues, Mania. I think I’m going to revert, but I will take a look with IE7 just to confirm. (Not seeing any of that in FF.)

    Thanks for the input!

Yeah…it looks like hell in IE7. And supposedly the theme is fully compliant HTML, CSS, and php code. Go figure, eh?
