Questward Ho!

If you are an habitué of the Blog Azeroth chatroom, much of what follows isn’t exactly news. But since I know most of you aren’t, I thought an update on where I am in the game would be timely. (If I totally missed the mark on that, please don’t dispel my illusions.)

A few weeks ago, I mentioned having moved Osprey and Talonis out of the guild I cofounded to a larger guild that was progressing in Karazhan. Without going into a lot of unnecessary detail, suffice to say that the progression wasn’t a lot faster than we were moving before. Because RavenLoft was bigger, we saw a few heroics and ran Kara 3 nights in one week. But when we couldn’t get enough people on Thursday for a second night in Kara last week, we pretty much agreed ("we" being my longtime friends Swissy and Katika) that we had reached another dead-end.

Our new fire mage friend and the officer who’d brought us into RavenLoft had moved his mage to The Oroborus a few days earlier. We quickly set up a Ventrilo conference with one of the officers prior to Thursday’s scheduled Kara run. After explaining the guild’s background and asking us a few questions about our experiences and goals, he let us know that we’d be welcome in the Guild.

Thursday’s non-run (we’d one-shot Attumen and Moroes on Tuesday) pretty much sealed the deal for us. Friday, we each moved a character to The Oroborus: Osprey, ice mage, and boomkin. Within an hour I was running a heroic Underbog with four of my new guildmates (none of whom I’d met before).

On Saturday, the three of us ran three consecutive heroics with our GM (at least one of which was a test run for our fire mage friend’s prot warrior alt, who at the time was still in RavenLoft). I’d withdrawn Talonis shortly after dropping Osprey from RavenLoft (and yes, I did communicate with the GM and the guild before leaving) so he was unguilded. On one of our runs through Heroic Mechanar, Tal supplied MQoSRDPS while the GM healed (holy priest and BM hunter: go figure). After that run through Heroic Mech, he asked if I wanted to keep Talonis unguilded, or if I was willing to bring an alt to The Oroborus. Not only was I willing, but honored to do so! Likewise, in short order Swissy added her warrior, and Katika her prot pally and resto druid.

Throughout the weekend, all seven characters had plenty of opportunities for heroics, and we also welcomed several other RavenLoft guildies to The Oroborus. And, we got back into Karazhan Sunday night, but not with the characters we’d run on Tuesday.

As it happened, some of the Oros had also downed Attumen and Moroes earlier in the week, but they couldn’t gather all 10 on Sunday. So Talonis, Katika and Lavynder (Swissy’s newly-respecced holy priest, and still in AWDY) helped to down Maiden. Lavy was the only priest, and Tal and Kat were numbers 1 and 3 on the damage meters for the fight (with Kat taking DPS honors). I was fortunate enough to be rewarded with Gloves of Quickness. And, we are hoping to take the same group back for Opera and more tonight!

From the moment I saw "You are now a member of The Oroborus," this has felt like a truly good fit. With the prospects of many badge runs, Karazhan, and even Gruul/Magtheridon for Osprey on Tuesday, not to mention ZA and SSC soon, I’m comfortable and confident we’ve found a long-term home.

Grats, Kes. Ain’t it a good feeling when you finally find a good guild match for your in-game objectives? Few things can make this game more maddening than being forced (or forcing yourself) to work with people that don’t share the same goals.

Oh wow, the world is TINY! I was clicking around someone’s links and found you. We’re on the same server, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you in game. What is even weirder (to me) is that you joined Oro – my guild just recently had about ten or so of them join us.

I’ll be sure to /wave if I see you. :)

Finding a new home is always an awesome feeling! I’d forgotten how good it felt until I recently joined the guild of the people my hunter raids with. It makes a hell of a difference, especially if you’re doing what you want to do.

Congratulations on the new guild tag! Here’s to fun, drinking, epics, and camaderie!

Grats on the new G-tag! I hope they work out better than the last ^_^

I’ve been on BA chat a bit, but it’s hard to keep up with BA Chat especially while gaming. So I either missed this news or wasn’t on when it was discussed.

I need to log in there more often O_o It’s nice to hang out with cool people like you and the other BA Bloggers =)

Out of curiosity, is it your server, play style, or time available that’s putting you in guilds like this?

Based on your ability to describe fights it sounds to me like you should be clearing 25mans by now… I was under the impression that most servers are at least in SSC at this point.

I’m not sure which you mean by “guilds like this” but on our server, both Alliance and Horde guilds have cleared BT and are in Sunwell.

As for myself: I was in a huge raiding guild pre-BC, on a very high-pop server. That caused long queues to get into the game; with 3 friends, I moved to Kul Tiras and started our own small guild of close friends. None of us, at that time, were into raiding. I didn’t have the desire nor the time then.

Now, the remaining three of us have each leveled at least 4 characters to 70. We’re ready for raid content, heroic 5-mans, etc. Many that were in our previous guild were ready before we were and moved on earlier (this has all been chronicled here before, incidentally).

So we’re now in a guild that is where we want to be, trying to regroup after some drama that occurred (shortly) before we joined, gearing people up to do SSC/TK.
