In fact, we did get to Great Harvest, and got a couple different loaves of wonderful bread, and some great cookies.

The trip was all we could have asked for, and more!

Hawaii is great, You'll have a great time! When I went, we only stopped in oahu breifly, but it was great! Sunset on the western side of the island was breath-taking! Enjoy!

Yay! I hope you have a wonderful vacation. Kailua is a good place to stay as the things most visitors want is right there - beach and good food.

I understand that some parts of Kailua beach are suffering from tidal problems. It'll still be nice but might not look the same as you remember.

If you want to walk around in China Town, parking is a drag. Highly recommend the municipal lot under the Lights Hope Chapel (corner of Beretania and Nu'uanu-entrance on Beretania).

Oh yeah, if you want a map (yes, you want a map), go to Long's and buy a Brian's road map ($10?). If it wasn't already Friday I'd mail one to you.

For fine dining any of the major hotels have great restaurants - Mariott Ihilani, Kahala Resort, Hilton, Hyatt, etc.

The one place I would recommend going to is Great Harvest Bread Company in Kailua - I think it's in Enchanted Lake Shopping Center with McDonald's and Safeway.

okok two. Swirl in Windward Mall. It's a little shop but they sell really great caramel apples.

--

Don't be paranoid but don't be foolish either. Exercise the same amount of caution here as you would at home. Come here, have an AWESOME time, but be safe =)

Thanks Rob :) I should have mentioned, this is our second trip to Oahu in < 12 months. We were there last October with my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. We've also been to the Big Island (looking forward to going back there). Next trip will probably be to a couple other islands.

Have fun in Honolulu! Kona Brew Co. is okay, there is alot to see and do in the Aloha Tower marketplace (where it is). Real close by is Restaurant Row, it has a theatre too (just saying). A real good steak restaurant there is Hy's steakhouse, its a 4 star restaurant. The ceasar salad is divine.

Must tries (IMO): Shaved Ice - particularly Maui Snow
Plate lunch - ie at Grace's Drive Inn, L&L Drive Inn. You can get really good food cheap. its akine to fastfood but amazingly better.
manapua - A little more rare. Stop by china town which is just a few blocks west of Queens Medical Center around noon or earlier. There are plenty of shops selling this (a very flavorful beef mix inside a sweet dough bun).

Hana. bay - i had a real bad experience last time. I parked up top and ended up getting my car towed. So either park in the lot or dont bother. Usually its full and they only let people in in batches. So my advice is to go really early. Like as soon as they open early.

I'm a former resident, lived there for 15 years.

Mmmm...Hawai'i...

Going to Kauai with wife, son, mom, dad, sister, and the in-laws (outlaws?) in a little over 2 weeks. It promises to be a good time. Drinks, beaches, tropical weather and a nearly endless supply of babysitters: It doesn't get much better than that.

Softi, have you tried Adium for the Mac? It does MSN just fine (no voice/video, but text chat works great). I got it today and was in the BA Chat Room with it.

Yay for the holiday! Yay for the Macbook!

I know it's not MS office, but Neooffice pretty much has the same apps and it's free... worth a try until you sort out a windows emulator I guess? Oh... and let me know if/when you DO get a decent emulator - that's something I've yet to do on my mac, and I miss MSN! ;)
