I Love My Subscribers…And I Want More!

If you’ve ever glanced through the material in the sidebars, you may have notice that I have around 550 subscribers to my RSS feed, which is delivered through FeedBurner. But I also know that I get 50 to 100 hits each day on this site from people who’ve never been here before (or at least, not in the last 90 days, which is almost forever in Internet terms).

So for all you newcomers and those of you who really don’t understand what RSS is (it stands for Really Simple Syndication), here’s a great big RSS button for you to press:

rss_heart

Press that button, and you will get every single article I post in your RSS feed reader of choice, for free, and without having to actually visit the site. "What’s a feed reader?" Very simply, it’s an application that aggregates your various RSS subscriptions into a single location (which is why feed readers are also referred to as "news aggregators" or "feed aggregators").

One of the simplest (and therefore, most popular) is Google Reader. I’ve tried a couple others, including Thunderbird and Outlook 2007, but I keep returning to GReader, because of its simplicity, and the fact it’s always just a browser tab away.

So go ahead…be brave…Click to Subscribe!

The real win with Google Reader is that it keeps your read/unread items synced no matter where you are. Before I used Google Reader it was a pain reading blogs at work, then having to mark a bunch of the posts as read when I got home.

What a great point about Google Reader: Read once, read everywhere (you have GReader installed). :)

Just wanted to say thank you. I had heard of rss, but never had used it. You prompted me to give it a try, and I have fallen in love. The craziest thing is that I now have like 10 blogs on there, I had no idea I read that many in a day! I notice that I keep going up to my favorites to search to see if anything is new, but assume that habit will die off soon.

    Thanks again.

Woot! That’s exactly what I was hoping would happen as a result of this article. Good luck keeping that list of blogs nice and short. ;)

Love the heart icon! I love RSS and “Really Simple Syndication” is a great description for it.
