AKA, internet f-wad theory. Totally agreed. Partially contributed to my move to wordpress, although I’ve yet to receive such comments. Still, can’t be too careful.

You make a good point, Tzia, and something I probably should have mentioned: I have built-in spam protection, but there is no other sort of preemptive moderation: I don’t use captchas, I don’t moderate first comments (anymore; I used to), I don’t do anything to prevent legitimate comments from being published…except require a name and email address (and even the email address can, and has been, spoofed).

I allow Anon on my blog… but that’s just because I have some pretty spacy guildmates out there. I think I have a few from my guildmate and long time friend Rivey that are technically Anon, but he signed his name at the end.

The only comment policy I have in place is… if its rude or defamatory? Its not getting past my screening. Otherwise? I will publish it.

But, as others have said, your blog, your policies.

Au contraire, mon ami: I feel anons discriminate against the rest of us by hiding behind their anonymity. And I recognize I may be the only person in the world who holds that belief; so be it. I’m comfortable with it.

There are plenty of other places for anons to comment: Blogspot blogs among them. I choose to make people accountable, in some small way, for what they have to say, as do most WordPress bloggers.

I’ve been a part of too many online groups where asshattery was allowed to run rampant; my blog won’t be one of those places. (And for the record, except for spam, I have never removed any post from this site.)

Completely disagree. While some anonymous commenters can be royal pains in the butt (and borderline abusive), the vast majority (at least on my site) are just as thoughtful and respectful as the actual named commenters. If someone is abusive (either named OR anon) then nuke their comment - but to discriminate against people who would rather have the total anonymity seems counter-productive.
