My WoW UI, a quick peek

Yesterday I tweeted that I was going to work on my WoW UI (and I did…spent all day and most of the evening at it!). Today, a friend IM’d me with a request for some addons, so I decided to post this "Before" pic for her. (The "After" shot will look pretty similar.)

So for Lauren, here’s the shot. Note OneBag3 on the right. :) (hope the picture comes through GReader!)

I could zip up my /addons folder and /savedvariables for you. BUT…if you’re not running a 24″ iMac, you might have a problem. ;)

That’s a lot of wasted space. Do you really need all those abilities on your screen? O_o

Nope, and that’s one of the things I’ll be working on. (Well I don’t need them all at once, anyway.)

But how is it wasted space? What else would I put there? Remember, this is a 24″ monitor, and the UI resolution is at the highest setting. Everything is in a bar either at the top or bottom of the screen (except unit frames), or on the edge. Plenty of room to see any fight.

Gemski would die if he saw my setup.

Yours is quite lovely and makes me want to tweak mine yet again.

That’s a load of icons! It would make me dizzy! I’m wondering where you’ll go with this :)

The revised layout isn’t a lot different, although I did create a panel for Grid down at the bottom. And I don’t have as much crap in the top bar.

As for the icons: I use my mouse for movement, so I have the entire left side of the keyboard available for keybindings. Everything I do in a fight I can do with my left hand. Being a touch typist helps. ;) Do I REALLY need to show all those things? No…but I tend to forget which button is which sometimes.

      So, I use Z – B, A – H, Q-Y (Holy priests have a LOT of spells!), and 1-6. F1 – F6 are also available, but I don’t use them very much at all.

(I spent half the raid last night trying to heal with my Smite key (E) and DPS (hahaha!) with my Flash Heal (S). Got a wire crossed somewhere…

I do have one bar hidden now while out of combat, and another hides while IN combat. So I’m getting there ;)

I am scared to try WoW. It might destroy what little spare time I have! I have a tendency to get ‘lost’ in things, better for me to get lost in work than in play :)

Heh…I think you’re the type of guy who’d really get into it…which probably wouldn’t be a good thing. As it is, I’ve been cutting back somewhat, but still have too much fun with my friends to quit completely. But…I’m retired, so the only thing I’m giving up is watching live TV (complete with commercials) and quality blogging time. ;)
