Putting the Chips on the Table

Today, I read Tami’s food posts, here and here, before lunch. Naturally, they only whetted my hunger.1

So of course, thinking about sandwiches led directly to thinking about things to eat with sandwiches. Such as…chips!

Now, my personal favorite is the plain ol’ ordinary Lay’s Classic Potato Chips (“Betcha can’t eat just one!”). I’m also partial to barbecue-flavor potato chips, but Lay’s don’t really do it for me anymore. Doritos are okay, but not as an accompaniment to a sandwich. And Ruffles only work with dip (or lots and lots of beer…but that’s another topic entirely).

Apart from sandwiches, I’m partial to original Wheat Thins, and just about any variety of Rold Gold pretzels. And of course, if I have guacamole, Tostitos or Doritos (or almost any similar chip) is what I crave.

With chili, though, Fritos are the only way to go, either as a base on which to ladle the chili, or sprinkled on top. And they work just fine for all-around munchy goodness.

So with these suggestions to start you salivating, what do you enjoy with your sandwiches? (Pickles! Don’t forget the pickles!) How about chips for snacking, without a sandwich?

  1. For the record, my “sandwich” today was a Nathan’s hot dog in a bun, wrapped in a paper towel and  microwaved for 33 seconds, with a thick slice of Provolone cheese inside the bun as well. Condiments were Del Monte Sweet Pickle Relish and Gulden’s Spicy Brown Mustard.

My favorite chips are blue corn tortilla chips, preferably with salsa, guacamole, and/or sour cream!

I have been known to make a meal with corn chips, salsa, and guacamole. My sister-in-law makes a killer guacamole, and living in Los Angeles, she can get the best fresh ingredients. Mmmmm…

Well I am a SAVs girl (salt & vinegar) chips. Love them with a cold diet pepsi.
Pretzels I enjoy but only if they are chocolate covered.

There is a place we get amazing sandwiches from here in Ottawa and they also make homemade pasta so we will often share a little of their gnocchi pasta in a tomato sauce with our sandwich.

Gotta say I’m not a fan of salt&vinegar. Guess it’s a taste I never acquired. But the gnocchi…and even though it’s almost 10pm here, you have my mouth watering!

Hubby made his second and last attempt making gnocchi at home last week but it is a pain in the butt. Getting the consistency is very difficult and you have to get the potatoes very dried out once you have boiled them. Have you ever made it?

I actually like my gnocchi boiled then lightly fried in olive oil with a few herbs thrown in . I like them a little crispy on the outside and some nice prosciutto pieces tossed in there. How does that sit with ya?

Its 5:49am here and I think I’ve decided what I’m having for breakfast hehe.

To be honest, gnocchi is one of those things I have to really be “in the mood” to order out…so nope, we haven’t made them at home. Sounds like something one of my sons would try though!

They sound great, and I love the website! :D Unfortunately, not available in the hinterlands of South Dakota, it seems. :( However, I’ll definitely keep an eye open for them in my travels.
