Actually, the US made the quarterfinals in 2002 (Japan/Korea).

The US came farther than ever before in the World Cup but it is still a disappointment to see them out so soon in the round of 16. Hopefully soccer will continue to grow and we can make it even further in the next WC.

Well, if you have internet, the World Cup games are all being streamed live. In the US, try espn3.com. As for writing, check out 750 Words. Several friends are writing there regularly, and I probably will as well. It's one way to help keep your nose to the grindstone, so to speak, and is extremely encouraging.

The World Cup is probably the only sporting event (outside of the Olympics) that I would have watched. Sadly, I don’t have any TV stations here at the house, so I missed it all.

I do like the idea of accountability. I find myself lacking in that area when it comes to my blogging. Been silent for awhile, mostly due to life getting busy. Work crit for 1000K and I’ve decided to start working on a career change. Blogging just sort of fell by the wayside. I do enjoy practicing writing, however, so I think I need to find myself a schedule that works, and stick with it.

I think that this is a great way to do it. I usually focus on the word count on a per post basis, without giving much thought to the total word count, but I like your method better!

Regarding soccer, referees, and such, I think it is important to note that a big part of soccer is keeping the momentum and flow of the game going. Having replays and such, would kill the game and turn it into something like American Football, where the game starts and stops constantly towards the end, dragging on.

I agree that something should be done to make sure they are making better calls, but it is important not to mess with the flow of the game…
