How To Remove & Delete Browsing History

What is a web browser and how does it operates? The Internet is an interesting place to be in! Most of us spend hours browsing on the Internet using our favorite browser. What is a browser actually? A web browser is a software application that allows you to find, open and display web pages. When you want to visit a website, you need to type the website’s URL or click onto a link. Now, the page that you want to open is located on a distant server. The web browser application, which serves as the client requests the web server application that is running on the distant computer.  After having obtained the request, the web server program searches for the requested page and prepares to send a response. On locating the page, the HTML file is sent back to the browser, which attempts to display the page. Now that you know how a web browser works you know must be aware that every time you search the Internet using your browser the details get saved in the browser history. This is done so that you can view the sites that you have been visiting recently or the searches that you have carried out. Although this can prove to be helpful at times, there could be instances when this could be dangerous too. Cookies which store any information you provide on the internet, can be dangerous as all the information can be retrieved from them. You certainly do not want someone to hack your email id or obtain your bank account password. To avoid these kinds of privacy breaches, it is always safe to delete all history from the browser. The process of deleting history from different browsers is slightly different. Let us take a look at the processes in various browsers.

Deleting History From Mozilla Firefox

In order to delete history from Mozilla Firefox, follow the steps given below: First click on Tools which is present in the menu bar on the top. Now select ‘Options’ from the list you see. This opens the ‘Options’ dialogue box Ensure that the privacy section is selected from the list again. On the right side of the ‘Options’ dialogue box, you will find ‘History’. When you click on the plus sign beside ‘history‘a box will appear. The box prompts the message ‘Remember visited pages’. Click on the Clear button beside the box and then click on OK to save the changes made and then exit the dialogue box ‘Options’. Thereafter, if anybody tries to view the history in Mozilla Firefox now, the list will be empty.

Deleting History from Internet Explorer

In order to delete history in Internet Explorer go through the steps given below:

First open the Internet Explorer.

Next locate the Tools menu on the right hand side of the Tab Bar of the browser. Click on it, on doing so a drop-down menu will appear. You need to select the option ‘delete browsing history’ from there. Now the window ‘delete browsing history’ will open up in front of you. The first section of the window called the ‘Temporary Internet Files’ stores multimedia files, images, etc. If you click on the button beside it called ‘delete files’, all temporary files will be deleted. The second section in the window is the ‘Cookies’. Clicking on the ‘delete cookies’ button beside it removes all cookies from the browser. The third section deals with ‘History’ and it records all websites visited by you. Clicking on the button called ‘delete history’ will delete all history. The fourth section is the ‘Form Data’ and it is responsible for storing all the information you provide on the form. When you click on the ‘delete forms’ button all the form data will get deleted. The last section in the window is ‘Passwords’ which stores the passwords you enter. When you click on the button labeled ‘delete passwords’ all the saved passwords get deleted. Right at the bottom of the window ‘delete browsing history’, there is a button labeled ‘Delete all’. This enables you to delete all the components at one time. Once you click on the ‘delete all’ button a message dialogue box will appear asking for your confirmation of the instruction given. You might also find an optional checkbox underneath that will ask you whether you want to delete files stored by add-ons. If you select the checkbox, this information will also be removed. Finally, you need to click on the button labeled ‘Yes’ in order to delete all Internet Explorer history.

Deleting History from Google Chrome

In order to delete history from Google Chrome consider the following steps: Open Google Chrome and click on the spanner-like icon the top left hand side corner of the browser. Select the ‘Tools’ option from there.Now select the option ‘Clear all browsing data’. A dialogue box will open up. From there select the checkbox labeled ‘Clear browsing history’. Now, you may specify how much data you want to delete by selecting the beginning of time so as to delete the history. Now click on the ‘Clear browsing data’ option. On clearing the browsing history the things that get deleted are the website addresses, the cached texts, snapshots of frequently visited pages and any pre-fetched IP address.

Deleting History from Apple Safari

In order to delete history from the Safari browser you need to go to the ‘History’ menu and select the option ‘Clear history’ present at the bottom of the menu. Deleting History from Netscape Navigator In order to delete history from Netscape Navigator, you need to go to the ‘Edit’ menu and then click on ‘Preferences’. From the options click on ‘History’ and then click on the button labeled ‘Clear history’.

Deleting History from Opera

To delete history from Opera users need to click on the ‘File’ menu followed by ‘Preferences’. Next select ‘History’ and then click on the button ‘Empty now’. If you want to delete the history every time you exit the browser you may also select the checkbox ‘Empty on exit’.
